What does the Ureaplasma Test detect?
It is a bacterial infection found in your genital or urinary tract.
Your immune system can be one of the causes of this infection. When you have a low immune system, you are more open to catching a flu, cold, or even an infection, like Ureaplasma.
The other cause can be sexual intercourse. This is one of the most common ways to contract it and needs a Ureaplasma Test. So you must ensure you use protection and don’t change partners often.
What are the symptoms in men?:
- Penile secretions.
- Dysuria (painful urination).
- Burning sensation during urination.
- Altered urethral secretions.
What are the symptoms in women?:
- Pain and burning sensations during urination.
- Watery, abundant, unpleasant-smelling secretions.
- Itching or pain in the vaginal area.
- Abdomen pain or pelvis pain.
A pregnant woman can transmit this infection to the child during birth. Even though the baby can show an atypical symptomatology:
- symptoms like pneumonia and lung injury;
- difficulty breathing, but in the absence of pneumonia;
- symptoms like meningitis and brain damage.
You have to consider taking a test before getting pregnant, as this infection can also lead to spontaneous abortion or premature birth.
Certainty diagnosis requires biochemical tests and the use of special equipment.
Since both Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma infections are similar, PCR tests certify the infection. The Ureaplasma Test is easy; you collect a sample from your genital area and send it to your preferred laboratory. The results should come quickly and it is easy to read.
Treatment monitoring is vital for checking treatment success. Antibiotic treatment is the only solution for anyone who wants to eliminate this infection. Therefore, the next thing to do once you have a positive result is ask your doctor to prescribe the treatment and ensure you take it. The chosen therapy should consider the patient’s profile, state of health, and the specific diagnosis established following related investigations.
If you are pregnant, you must avoid taking antibiotics as they can have severe risks.
Infection prevention involves avoiding sex and protection. In general, proper hygienic behaviour, associated with methods of a prophylactic nature, is extremely useful for avoiding infection. Avoiding risk factors is the first recommendation.
Before any sexual intercourse, you can discuss it with the partner. If positive for Ureaplasma, avoid having sexual contact for the entire period of the treatment.
Carrying out regular checks. Having fewer sexual partners is the main way to reduce the incidence and the need for Ureaplasma Tests.
According to specialists, the presence of this bacteria should not raise major problems unless the infection occurs during pregnancy.
If you or anyone else is concerned about the infection, you should see a specialist doctor or your GP. To avoid it, use protection during sex.

Q: Firstly, what is this infection?
- A: A bacteria commonly found in people’s urinary or genital tract.
-
Q: And how is it spread?
- A: But it can be spread by vaginal, penile, oral or anal sexual contact.
-
Q: But how can I reduce my risk of getting this bacteria?
- A: If you are sexually active, you can reduce the risk of getting it by using condoms correctly every time you have sex.
-
Q: However, what are the symptoms?
- A: Those infected may not notice any symptoms. However, the main symptom is inflammation, which can cause discomfort.
-
Q: But what are the symptoms for females?
- A: Pain during sex, post-coital bleeding, pain in the stomach area, swollen genitalia, vaginal discharge, burning sensation when urinating.
-
Q: And what are the symptoms for males?
- A: Urethritis, discharge from the penis, stinging sensation when urinating.
-
Q: However, how common is the Ureaplasma infection?
- A: A recent study has suggested that over one per cent of the population could be infected.
-
Q: Also, can this infection cause infertility issues?
- A: But if a woman has unexplained infertility, she should get tested for it, as this might be the issue.
-
Q: So, if I am pregnant, does it affect my baby?
- A: Therefore, it can be passed on from an infected mother to the fetus in the womb. But, in this case, there is a risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, risk of premature birth or rupture of the membranes prematurely.
-
Q: Finally, can a post-ureaplasma test treatment cure it?
- A: Yes, the healthcare provider will give the cure to treat the infection.
How to Get a Ureaplasma Prescription?
Customers across the UK have often complained that they have difficulty getting a Ureaplasma or indeed any prescription when they get a positive test result. They often visit a doctor or NHS SH centre, which leads to a waste of many hours and travel costs and or paying private Doctors’ fees.

Bundle at the time of Purchase: Price £30
The steps:
- Select the bundle at the time of the order. The £30 price is a special bundle price due to efficient simple AI transmission.

Scientific Data from the Ureaplasma Instrument and Reagent Supplier?
Technology Method:
Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
Limit of Detection:
1 x 104 CFU/mL (Colony Forming Units)
Sensitivity:
In the kit’s positive and negative reference controls, the positive and negative coincidence rates were 100%.
Specificity:
No cross-reactivity of the kit between the microorganisms was observed.
Accuracy:
Precision reference controls were tested 10 times, and the Ct value’s coefficient of variation (CV%) was no greater than 5%.
Result/Outcome/Range –
Positive/Negative/Inconclusive
Validation-Active Information:
- EQA: Yes
- Inter-laboratory validations
- Periodic according to the validation schedule
- Event-triggered- QC/Calibration/New materials/Batch
Accuracy
The accuracy of any of our diagnostic tests is defined as the combination of sensitivity and specificity variables. Sensitivity is the test’s ability to confirm positive results; specificity eliminates negative results. All our tests are validated with high accuracy (up to 98.5%).
Variables
Accuracy can be affected by various factors that our lab cannot control. Infection intensity, patient health, and sample quality, dependent on adherence to “home testing” procedures, can all limit the test results. Although our tests are extremely sensitive, a poor-quality swab makes it harder to detect the presence of infection, as fewer viral particles will be present. Please carefully consider the information sheet accompanying your sample collection kit to ensure a high-quality sample.
Detection
The Ureaplasma PCR detection test can accurately detect the presence of the Ureaplasma urealyticum bacteria. The test uses a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) amplifying method to detect the pathogen.
Positive result
A positive result suggests the presence of viral particles in the sample during testing; upon receiving positive results, you should contact your healthcare provider for treatment. You can also gain a prescription through our website. It is possible the Ureaplasma urealyticum bacteria do not present symptoms of the disease, but you may still be infectious to others.
Negative result
While this can provide reassurance, it is important to understand its significance. This means the test did not detect the presence of infection at the time of testing. Results should still be discussed with a healthcare provider while considering lifestyle and sexual history. If you are in contact with someone who tests positive for the disease or begins to present symptoms consistent with the disease, you should contact your GP.

Plan:
- Ceftriaxone 250mg IM plus 750mg IV
- Doxycycline 100mg PO BID X 10 days
- HIV, VDRL, GC, CT tests, plus CBC, chem panel

Susan, visit 3, day 9
- Symptoms slightly improved (rash, leg and foot pain, dysuria).
- Repeated ceftriaxone 1g IV per plan
- Urine culture from the first visit: mixed flora x103
- CT/GC from yesterday was negative
Assessment: “Picture, w/ triad of urethane, rash and foot pain.”

Susan, visit 4, day 10
- Symptoms persist, pt
- Pelvic exam repeated, same findings
- Labs: GC/CT repeated, HSV PCR (urethral swab), HSV serology done
- Derm biopsy done; consider EM, vasculitis
Therefore, despite spending more than $1000 trying to figure out Ureaplasma,
What’s going on?
Susan
- HSV PCR positive for HSV-2, and
- HSV also positive for HSV-2
- Derm biopsy result shows a syndrome and
- The was started, and symptoms resolved within one week
- Retrospective history: The partner had a history of penile lesions one month earlier.
Papular
Genital Herpes – teaching points:
- Dysuria, with or without genital lesions, is a common symptom of genital herpes and
- Herpes should be considered early UTI symptoms.
- Herpes can also cause florid cervicitis, as occurred in this patient.
- HSV PCR tests are highly sensitive and specific
- Test of choice for lesion or symptom
Mark
CC: night sweats, body aches, blood in urine
HPI: 21 y.o. Male w/ night sweats X 1 week but no fever. The Dysuria began 3 days ago with intense pain and some urgency. Furthermore, urethral discharge X 1 day and bright red hematuria were noted yesterday. However, the patient reports having had 2 female sexual partners recently. And specifically, this includes someone he “barely knows” but used condoms 100% with these partners.
Mark, continued
- Additional Ureaplasma history:
I was backpacking in Central America one month ago with friends and developed profuse, watery diarrhoea one week after returning. The diarrhoea resolved shortly before the urinary symptoms started.
Temp 97.4F, VS normal,
Urethritis, hematuria, night sweats
Mark, continued
Plan:
- Azithromycin 1g PO single dose
- Urine CT/GC
- Urinalysis and urine culture
- UA result: + LE, + Heme, + protein, WBC clumps, full field
- RBC, no bacteria
- CBC and panel
But is this a case of urethritis?
Therefore, why or why not?
Mark, continued
- Returns to the clinic the next day, reporting that his dysuria is worse and he has penile pain at rest
- PE repeated, findings unchanged.
- Further history provides some more details:
- The last unprotected sex was 4 mo ago.
- Diarrheal illness was followed by sweats/ chills,
- Arthralgias, fatigue, myalgias, then urinary sex.
- Due to concerns about possible prostatitis, he was started on a course of ciprofloxacin 500mg
Mark, continued
Final lab results:
- Chlamydia & gonorrhea: negative
- CBC/chem panel: normal
- Urine culture: positive isolate for Salmonella Havana
Resolution
- Symptoms resolved quickly after starting Cipro
- Dx: Salmonella Urethritis? Cystitis? Prostatitis?
Mark – discussion
- Urethritis can have multiple
- Only 50% are chlamydia or gonorrhea
- Other causes include HSV, trich, adenovirus, mycoplasma
- Nearly always sexually acquired in young men …but probably not in this case
- Salmonella as a cause of UTI is reported infrequently, usually with preceding gastroenteritis
- The source could be hematogenous or directly spread secondary to illness
Brittany
So Brittany is a 19-year-old female who presented to the Women’s Health Clinic for “STI testing.”
However, she was seen for an annual physical exam at her home clinic over the summer. At that time, she tested positive on a cervical culture for Ureaplasma urea-lyticum. However, she was treated with a two-week course of erythromycin and advised to undergo a check for a cure in two months.
Brittany continued
- Checks for U. urealyticum is not performed at the SHS, and the evidence does not support routine checks or treatment. However, we had little to offer this patient.
- Therefore, the provider contacted the provider back home. However, the doctor stated that her environment and practice patterns were required to treat it.
What are Myco?
- Smallest known free-living life forms.
- Prokaryotes, but lack a cell wall.
- The cell membrane contains sterols.
- Extracellular parasites attach to the surface of epithelial cells of the respiratory and genital tracts.
Genital Disease
Furthermore, several species of mycoplasma are known to colonize the genital tract:
- Mycoplasma hominis
- Ureaplasma urealyticum
- M. premium
- M. genitalium
- M. spermatophilum
- M. penetrants
Therefore, M. hominis, Mycoplasma and U. urealyticum are potential urogenital pathogens attributed to causing nongonococcal urethritis, cervicitis, and pelvic inflammatory disease.
Epidemiology
- M. hominis and U. urealyticum colonize the genital and urinary tracts of postpubertal females and males. Ureaplasma colonizes as many as 40-80% of asymptomatic, sexually active patients.
- Female colonization is maximal in the vagina and less in the endocervix, urethra, or endometrium.
- Male colonization occurs primarily in the urethra.
- Colonization rates are directly related to sexual activity and are highest among persons with multiple sexual partners.
- Research has not shown a definitive association between M. hominis or U. urealyticum and symptomatic infections in women; some have suggested a relationship between PID and infertility.
