How to Get a Prescription?
Customers across the UK have often complained that they have difficulty getting a Full Profile or any prescription when they get a positive result. They often visit a doctor or NHS SH centre, which leads to a waste of many hours, travel costs, and/or paying private Doctors’ fees.
Medicines Online is the first UK Diagnostic Laboratory to bundle a Prescription Referral Service with its Product solutions. When you purchase this option, a positive result report is sent within seconds to the dashboard of our referral GP.
Bundle at the time of Purchase: Price £30
The steps:
- You can select the bundle at the time of the order. The £30 price is a special bundle price due to efficient, simple AI transmission.
- You can also select this £30 Bundle at the checkout.
- Complete your purchase, and if you get a positive result, go to your dashboard and fill out the pop-up Referral Questionnaire from the Doctor.
- If your result is positive, a Referral is automatically transferred to the Doctor for processing via the Doctor’s Login Dashboard. You will be contacted by email or telephone if the doctor has any questions. If approved, your Online Digital prescription will be automatically emailed the same day or the next day, and you can take it to your nearest Pharmacy.
Total time: Up to 1 day from positive result to email your Digital Prescription.
When choosing the bundle, regardless of your result, you choose the special price ‘In case of receiving a positive result’. A regular prescription is twice the price. The bundle option is an offer as a pack. This value is not refundable. It’s a good choice if you’re sure you have an infection. If you don’t have anything but want to get a checkup to be sure, then maybe this is not for you. And anyway you have the £60 option later if you want it.
And the Non-Bundle Price option of £60
You can wait until you get your STI-positive result, then visit our Online Prescription Page and pay for your Referral Consultation at the regular rate of £60.
The steps:
- Purchase the Referral Prescription product for £60 on the website.
- Provide the order number that you had a positive result so we can track it and Upload your result pdf.
- Complete the purchase and fill out the pop-up Referral Questionnaire from the Doctor.
- For positive STD results, your Referral is automatically transferred to the Doctor for processing. You will be contacted by email or telephone if the doctor has any questions. If approved, your Online Digital prescription will be automatically emailed within 1 day of completing the questionnaire, and you can take it to your nearest Pharmacy.
Total time: Up to 1 day for processing Digital Online Prescription.
Prescription does not apply for HPV, HIV and Syphilis products.

A Shared Story about STD infections
Super gonorrhoea, antibiotic-resistant sexually transmitted infections on the rise
The three British cases are nothing more than the confirmation of a trend that has been evident for years, caused by the abuse of antibiotic therapies.
Three cases of gonorrhoea in the United Kingdom have led health authorities to raise the alarm in recent months. The sexually transmitted infection, caused by the Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacterium and the second most widespread in the world after chlamydia, has in fact presented itself in a version that is very resistant to treatment. The same experts have christened it “super gonorrhoea”, and unfortunately, it is yet another confirmation of the increasingly worrying phenomenon of antibiotic resistance. The cases were identified in recent months and reported as resistant to ceftriaxon, the main drug used to treat the bacterium in the UK.
Similar signals have been repeated for at least a decade.
But since 2000, new drug-resistant strains have been recorded in Japan.
The very high risk is that in general it will no longer be possible to treat some infections, unless we design and produce increasingly powerful and specific antibiotics. A practice that is not necessarily always possible and is in turn always harmless to health, as well as quick to implement. On the other hand, antibiotic-resistant infections kill around one and a half million people in the world every year. These are STD Panel pathologies that we once treated and which, fundamentally due to the abuse and incorrect prescriptions of antibiotics, today we are no longer able to combat given that the bacteria have become accustomed to the molecules that in the past were sufficient to neutralize them. Gonorrhea, as seen, is a particularly dynamic bacterium from this point of view.
If left untreated, can be very serious.
Not only can it facilitate the transmission of other sexual diseases and obviously lead to pain and chronic inflammation of the genitals but it can also trigger pelvic inflammatory diseases in women, lead to early abortions, increase the chances of ectopic pregnancies and infertility in men and women. The use of condoms, which unfortunately, as reported by a recent Durex observatory dedicated to the habits of young people, only 46.3% use regularly, remains the key to protecting yourself. In fact, gonorrhea is transmitted through any type of sexual intercourse and via maternal-fetal transmission at birth. The problem is precisely that if the gonococcus is treated poorly or not immediately after the infection, it can become resistant to different classes of antibiotics: penicillins, tetracyclines, macrolides and fluoroquinolones.
Obviously you cannot have sexual intercourse during treatment.
«It is the consequence of an abuse of inappropriate antibiotic treatments over the years, of people treating themselves poorly, of do-it-yourself, of the use of Doctor Google instead of turning to specialists – explains Alessandra Latini, head of the STD Diseases Unit sexually transmitted infections of the Hospital Physiotherapy Institutes (Ifo)-Istituto San Gallicano (Isg) of Rome, to Corriere della Sera which dedicated an in-depth analysis to the three cases – and the Covid pandemic has made things worse: many infectious disease departments have suspended or reduced activities for months, so many cases of sexually transmitted infections went undiagnosed and, as a result, more people were forced to self-medicate. A situation that can fuel the emergence of both resistance to treatment and supergonorrhea.”
How to recognize infection?
In women, attention should be paid to burning sensations, difficulty urinating, yellow-green discharge and pain before and after intercourse, as well as generalized vaginal itching. In men, abundant secretions are always greenish-yellow in color, burning sensations and difficulty urinating. If contracted through oral intercourse it can trigger pharyngitis in both sexes. To be certain, you need urethral swabs for men or vaginal or cervical swabs for women, but there are also oral and rectal tests. The material is then subjected to amplification of the nucleic acids while the antibiogram will provide information on the sensitivity and resistance of the bacterium to antibiotics.
Is this a long term trend?
“It’s too early to say whether this will be the start of a long-term trend, but we know that sexually transmitted diseases are on the rise in general,” explained Dr. Katy Sinka, head of the sexually transmitted diseases section at the UK Health Security Agency. Contracting one of these conditions is “not as simple as taking medicine and moving on with your life: if not properly treated, they can have a long-term impact on your health and that of your partner.” Furthermore, “antibiotic resistance in the mix makes the impact even greater.”
«We are seeing a worrying lack of progress in stopping the spread of sexually transmitted infections around the world – explained Peter Salama, executive director for these issues at the World Health Organization – this is a wake-up call for an effort concerted to ensure everyone, everywhere has access to the services they need to prevent and treat these debilitating diseases.” In fact, it is estimated that only syphilis – the treatment of which has become more complex in recent times due to the global shortage of benzathine penicillin – is syphilis. caused 200,000 fetal deaths in 2016.
Treatment Plans do exist
The problem is that, compared to the data published in 2012, the desired decline in the rates of existing infections or new infections has not occurred. On average, about one in 25 people worldwide have at least one of these STD conditions, with many people infected with several of them. The causes are obviously unprotected sex – vaginal, anal and oral – and, as seen, transmission during pregnancy or contact with blood products. A situation in which we could intervene effectively with sexual education operations and a careful and appropriate use of contraceptive methods including the widespread use of condoms.
