What is the Lipase Test?

The pancreas generates an enzyme during digestion that aids in breaking down lipids in the intestines. However, due to inflammation or injury to the pancreas, lipase can diffuse into the bloodstream.

Commonly known as a serum lipase check-up, it can determine whether or not levels are elevated. High amounts could signal a pancreas disease or another ailment. At the same time, you may need to evaluate the levels of another enzyme called amylase. This can provide additional information that can aid in diagnosing a pancreas issue.

How long do the results take?

The target turnaround time for the results is 1 working day. However, this time is a guide only and may depend on assay run schedules.

  - A: Our certified nurse will take a sample from your arm. First, she will clean your skin with an alcohol wipe and tie a band around your upper arm to make the veins more visible. Once she finds a vein, she will insert a needle attached to a vial to collect the sample, which may fill one or more vials.
