Medical information

Oral contraceptive pills contain hormones, which are chemicals produced in your body that control your monthly cycle. You may wish to take these pills to prevent getting pregnant. Oral contraceptive pills do not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STI) so you may consider using a condom as well.

There are 2 types of oral contraceptive pills: combined oral contraceptives (known as 'the pill'), and progestogen-only pill (POP, also known as 'mini pill'). Your doctor will help to determine your suitability to the types of contraceptive pill that you need.

Correct use of oral contraceptives is effective in preventing pregnancy, including not missing any pill, taking the pills in accordance to directions and taking extra contraceptive options when necessary.

Some women may also take oral contraceptive pills to regulate painful periods or to help with acne.

Women who are eligible can obtain a 3-month supply of their current contraceptive pills if the following applies:

  • You have been taking the same contraceptive pill previously for at least 12 months.
  • You have had no problems with your contraceptive pill in the last year.
  • You are up to date with your cervical smears (usually smears within 3 years).
  • You have had a face-to-face pill check with a doctor or nurse in the last year.

Medicinesbymailbox can only issue a 3-month supply of your current pill. This service does not replace your regular face-to-face contraceptive pill check-up.  You will still need to attend your regular routine contraception checks every year to ensure that your cervical smears and blood pressure checks are up to date, so that the most suitable option is provided.

Types of contraceptive pill

You will need to fill out a Yes/No questionnaire before ordering your contraceptive pills.

After a consultation you will, if eligible, be able to choose your current contraceptive pill (combined & mini pill) from the list below.

We provide a range of oral contraceptive pills:

Combined

MINI PILLS:

Please visit the individual medicines page for specific product information.

Note: We do not supply oral contraceptive pills online to women in the high risk groups or aged 55 and above. Please consult a doctor or pharmacist for contraceptive advice.
