Norethisterone product information

Norethisterone is a progestogen hormone which mimics the action of the progestogen hormone normally presents in our body. It helps to maintain lining of the womb and prevent menstruation.
Note: taking norethisterone is not a form of contraception and it does not help prevent pregnancy. Norethisterone should only be taken occasionally to help delay period.

How to take

The usual dose for stopping a period is to take 1 tablet 3 times daily, started 3 days before the day of your expected period. Your period should resume 2-3 days after you stop taking them.

Side effects of Norethisterone

Like all medicines, Norethisterone can cause some side effects, although not everyone gets them.

The most common side effects associated are: nausea, headache and bloating. These side effects are mild but if you are worried about any of these, you should speak to a doctor or pharmacist for advice.

However, if you develop these uncommon but serious side effects, you should stop taking Norethisterone and contact your doctor immediately:

  • pain or tightness of chest
  • problems with vision and hearing
  • severe unexplained headache
  • yellow of the skin and white of the eyes
  • symptoms of severe allergic reactions: difficulty breathing, swelling of eyes, lips or face etc.

The full list of side effects can be found on the patient information leaflet attached below.

When ordering from Medicinesbymailbox, you may be asked to fill in a series of Yes/No questionnaires to determine your suitability to the medicine. Medicinesbymailbox can supply a maximum of 60 tablets to delay a period for up to 17 days.
