Dermol 500 product information

Dermol 500 is a moisturiser that contains antimicrobials such as benzalkonium chloride and chlorhexidine dihydrochloride to help combat bacterias that make your eczema worse. It also contains emollients such as liquid paraffin and isopropyl myristate that helps to keep your skin soft and supple. It is suitable to be used in all age groups, including babies.

Dermol 500 can either be used as a leave-on treatment or as a soap substiture.

How to use

You should follow the directions on the label and package.

In general, apply Dermol 500 liberally to all areas of skin, in the direction of hair growth. For best results, apply it immediately after towel drying the skin. You should use emollients everyday to prevent flare up of eczema.

Some people may be prescribed steroid creams to be used together with the emollient. You should apply Dermol 500 first and wait for 10-15 minutes before applying steroid.

To use it as a soap substitute, use Dermol 500 to replace your soap or shower gel, then rinse off. Pat the skin dry with a towel. Avoid rubbing as it may irritate your skin.

Side effects of Dermol 500

Side effects are unlikely but you should stop using the emollient if you experience any burning or stinging of the skin.

You may need to answer a series of Yes/No questionnaires before ordering to determine your suitability to the medicine.
As emollients can be greasy, you should be careful of slips, trips and falls.

Dermol 500 is for topical use only. Avoid getting it into your eyes, nose or mouth.

Patient information leaflet

The 'patient information leaflet' supplied with the cream should be read before use.
