Cetirizine belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines. Our body produces a substance called histamine when allergy occurs and antihistamines help to stop the effect of histamine. This helps to relieve symptoms of allergies such as hay fever.

How to take

The usual dose for hay fever is to take one 10mg tablet per day. If your symptoms do not improve after 3 days, you should speak to a doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Side effects of Cetirizine

Like all medicines, Cetirizine might cause some side effects, although not everyone gets them.

The most common side effects associated are: feeling drowsy or sleepy and headache. Side effects are usually mild but if you are concerned, speak to a doctor or pharmacist. It does not normally cause drowsiness but if you do, you should avoid driving or operating machinery.
